UPDATE: OnePlus says that all Loop VR headsets in the US and UK have been sold. If you weren't able to grab one, OnePlus does say that its OnePlus 3 launch event will be compatible with "most" other VR headsets, so you should be able to take part if you've got another VR headset laying around.
Last year, the OnePlus 2 was announced in virtual reality, and OnePlus gave away free Google Cardboard headsets to help people participate. OnePlus is going back to VR for the launch of the OnePlus 3, but it’s one-upping itself this year.
OnePlus is now offering Loop VR headsets to consumers in advance of the OnePlus 3 launch. Loop VR is a more premium VR headset, resembling Samsung’s Gear VR with its adjustable straps and inner padding, and it’s been made in collaboration with AntVR. OnePlus says that the Loop VR headset is compatible with most smartphones with 5 to 6-inch screens.
One thing that’s not changing from OnePlus’s last VR headset is the price. Loop VR can be “bought” for free, leaving you to cover just the shipping cost. You can get them from the OnePlus store, like the US and UK shops, or from Amazon if you’re in India. OnePlus says that there will be 30,000 Loop VR headsets offered, so if you want one, you’d better act fast.
OnePlus touts that the OnePlus 3 launch will be “the world’s first global shopping experience in VR.” Those that take part in the event will see OnePlus’s virtual space station, called The Loop, and they’ll also be able to order the OnePlus 3 before anyone else. OnePlus isn’t saying much about the OnePlus 3 itself, though, so it’s still unclear what features it might have or how much it’ll cost.
If you manage to score a Loop VR headset, be sure to let us know!
