A source speaking to Bloomberg says that Twitter will soon stop counting photos and links toward the 140-character limit on tweets. Links currently use up 23 characters in a tweet, so that’ll free up a good chunk of space in your future tweets.
This change hasn’t been confirmed by Twitter, but it’s said that Twitter may make the tweak in the next two weeks.
Removing links and photos from the 140-character limit on tweets would be a good move for both Twitter and its users. The change could encourage users to share more links and photos on Twitter, which is something that I’m sure Twitter would love, and it would allow users to provide more context for the photos and links that they post.
It’s been rumored that Twitter could raise the 140-character limit on tweets, but CEO Jack Dorsey has said that that limit is “staying.” With the change that’s being rumored today, Twitter users will at least be able to cram a few more characters into their tweets when sharing a photo or link.
