Fingerprint readers have become a big feature in mobile lately, with many iOS and Android devices adopting them. Soon it looks like the feature will expand to Windows phones, too.

At its recent WinHEC conference, Microsoft revealed that it plans to add fingerprint reader support to Windows 10 Mobile this summer. The first device to support Windows’ new fingerprint reader functionality will be the HP Elite x3, a high-end Windows 10 Mobile smartphone that was announced earlier this year.

Windows 10 Mobile already offers one security feature with Windows Hello, letting users unlock their phones using iris scanning tech. It’s good to see Microsoft adding fingerprint reader support to Windows Hello too, though, because putting your finger on a fingerprint reader could be a better way to unlock a phone than an iris scanner in some situations.
