Looks like the Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX aren’t the only new wearable devices that Samsung is cooking up.
Samsung today announced the Charm, a “stylish lifestyle band” that can track your steps and alert you to incoming calls, texts, and social media updates. It syncs with your smartphone over Bluetooth and the Charm by Samsung app, which can show you how many steps you’ve taken, the distance you’ve traveled, and the calories that you’ve burned.
When it comes to notifications, the Charm has an LED that can light up indicate when you’ve got new calls, texts, or alerts from other apps that you can choose.
The Charm also works when you’re away from your smartphone. You won’t be able to get your smartphone alerts, but Charm will continue to monitor your fitness data when you’re away from your phone.
The Samsung Charm is powered by a 17mAh battery that Samsung says can last up to 14 days on a single charge. It charges using a Pogo pin charging cable.
The goal of the Charm is to look more like jewelry than a wearable device, which is why it’s just a thin band with a squircle object on top. It’s definitely a minimalist device that most people probably won’t realize is a fitness tracker. Most fitness trackers and smartwatches definitely look like a piece of technology strapped to your wrist, so if you’re looking for something that’ll better blend in with your jewelry or clothes, the Charm could be a good option.
The Samsung Charm is launching in Korea, Italy, France, and Russia and will soon come to other “select markets.” Samsung doesn’t disclose the Charm’s price in its announcement, but it’s listed on Samsung’s French website for €39.90, or $45 USD.
