Remember how Google is prepping a travel assistant app for Android and iPhone? We still haven’t gotten any official announcement from Google about the app, but while we wait for one, the rumor mill has decided to share some more details about it.
Details and images of an app called Google Trips has been leaked by Android World. The app purportedly shows you information about your upcoming trips, including your flights and accommodations, by combing your Gmail account (once you give it permission to do so, of course). The app will also break down ways that you can get around, offering details on your airport, public transit, taxi and ride-sharing, and so on.
When it comes to finding things to do once you’ve arrived at your destination, Google Trips will show you Top Spots in the area so that you can visit highly-rated places, and there’s also a For You section that will presumably offer suggestions of things to do based on things that you’ve shown interest in. There are also suggestions for places that are farther away from where you’re staying as well as a dedicated Food & Drink section.
Also of note is that one screen says that you can view your travel info without an internet connection. That could come in handy for those times when you land in a strange country and don’t yet have cell service.
When Google sent out invitations to test this new app, it said that Local Guides that are Level 2 or higher would be getting a sneak peek. That means that it wanted people that are extremely familiar with locations and can give solid, detailed info about a place. Now we know why, as some of the info shown in these leaked screenshots is very detailed. For example, it offers info on Barcelona-El Prat Airport like how far it is from the city center, which terminals are mostly used for international travel, how often the shuttle buses leave, and the best way to get from the airport to the city center.
While we’ve only seen a bit of the still-unannounced Google Trips app so far, it looks like it could be a pretty handy tool for travelers, so long as you’ve got your travel info in Gmail. Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when the app will launch to the public, so for now we’ll just have to ogle the screenshots that’ve leaked. To see more of those, hit up the link below.
