Earlier this month, BlackBerry announced that it’d be testing the BlackBerry Priv’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow update with a public beta program. That testing is kicking off today.
In a post in the BlackBerry Beta Zone, BlackBerry says that some of the beta program participants will receive their update today, April 13. The Marshmallow update will be offered to a small group of testers initially, and it’ll continue to roll out to more as BlackBerry works to ensure that there are no major bugs. All testers should have the update by the end of this week.
Android 6.0 for the BlackBerry Priv will have many of the features that you’d expect from a Marshmallow update, like Google Now on Tap, battery life improvements with Doze, and so on. The beta testers may also get new security updates before they’re released to the public in BlackBerry’s monthly security patches.
BlackBerry hasn’t said exactly when it might begin pushing Android 6.0 to all Priv owners, but if the beta testing goes smoothly, it may not be long before every Priv owner gets a taste of Marshmallow.
