We’re starting to make progress on our 2016 Android flagship checklist, with companies like Samsung and LG having shown their wares, HTC coming up soon, and Motorola expected to have a new phone of its own. It’s unknown when Moto might show a new handset, but a new image may give us a sneak peek at it.
An image shared by hellomotoHK might shown Motorola’s 2016 Android flagship. The image appears to show a phone on a subway or train next to a person working on a computer. The device itself is reminiscent of recent Motorola designs with its rounded corners and silver edge. We can see Motorola’s prototype logo in the upper left corner, some text beneath the earpiece or speaker that likely says that the device is confidential property of Motorola, and what could be a front-facing camera flash, too.
Perhaps the more interesting bits about this phone are located at the bottom of the unit. Below its screen is a squarish shape that could be a fingerprint reader, and living at the bottom of the unit what looks to be an oval-shaped USB Type-C port.
There haven’t been a ton of leaks concerning Motorola’s next hero phone, so we don’t really have any information to compare this leaked photo to. Fingerprint readers and USB Type-C ports are all the rage in flagship smartphones nowadays, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see the two features appear in Motorola’s next flagship, but it’d be kind of strange to see the new Moto flagship have a fingerprint reader below its screen rather than on the back of the phone, where Motorola typically places a round dimple with its logo. Perhaps Moto and Lenovo decided a front fingerprint reader like the one on the Vibe P1 is better than the rear-mounted reader found on the Vibe X3?
This photo is very much unconfirmed, so for now we’ll just have to look at the image and speculate. What do you think of the blurry device in this photo? Would you be happy if it becomes the new Motorola flagship?
