Facebook Messenger is getting some new features today aimed at making it easier for you to contact your friends.
David Marcus, the lead for Messenger at Facebook, has announced that his team is starting to roll out Messenger codes, usernames, and links starting today. An example of a Messenger Code can be seen in the images above. Each person and business can get a unique code, and when you scan it using Messenger, you can open a conversation.
Links are exactly what they sound like: a link to your username that’ll let others easily start a conversation with you. Links look like m.me/username, where “username” is replaced with the Facebook username of the person that you’re looking for.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen a messaging app use unique codes to help you easily connect with others, as Snapchat offers a similar feature for users to quickly add a friend. The feature is a welcome addition to Messenger, though, as it’ll make it much quicker to message anyone that you’re not already friends with on Facebook.
These new Messenger features are now rolling out on Android and iOS, so keep an eye out for them.
