After launching in Japan earlier this month, Miitomo, Nintendo’s first smartphone app, will hit the US and other countries later this week.
Nintendo has confirmed that Miitomo will launch in the US and “several other countries,” including the UK, on March 31. The app will be available on both Android and iOS. If you’d like, you can pre-register for the app right here to be notified when it launches and to receive My Nintendo Platinum Points for Nintendo’s rewards program.
Miitomo is a free-to-start app that has you creating a Mii avatar, including tweaking its voice and personality, and the answering questions about yourself. Some of the examples include “What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?” and “If you were given 10 grand to spend in one day, what would you do?” Those answers are shared with your friends who can “heart” your response or respond with a written or picture comment. There are also minigames that let you win clothes for your Mii and a feature that’ll let you take photos of your Mii to share on social media.
Miitomo is kind of a big deal in mobile because it’s the first smartphone app from Nintendo, a company that’s a major player in video games and one of the more well-known firms around the world. It won’t be the last smartphone app from Nintendo, though, as they’ve committed to launching five mobile games through 2017.
