When Samsung announced the start of its Android 6.0 update rollout earlier this week, it also detailed some of the goodies that GS6 edge owners will be getting with the update. Today Samsung revealed some more features that’ll be part of the Android 6.0 update, including features for folks using non-edge Galaxy devices.
Samsung’s Android 6.0 update will bring with it Samsung Internet 4.0, the newest version of Samsung’s web browser. The new version will include Secret Mode, which is accessed using your fingerprint and acts as a sort of private browsing mode that won’t save your browsing history or passwords. You can also save pages and store bookmarks in Secret Mode, and they’ll be kept in a secure space.
Other new features that’ll be included with Samsung Internet 4.0 are shared bookmarks and video history between Gear VR and Galaxy phones and updated HTML5 compatibility.
The Android 6.0 update for Samsung devices also includes Cross App, a feature that lets users open apps while using another app. For example, you could open a web browser while using a chat app or open your photos while using a messaging app to choose an image to share with the person that you’re talking to. Cross App also supports multimedia playback so that you can play sounds and videos from within the chat and make them full screen.
Finally, Samsung confirms that many of Android 6.0’s main features will be distributed to its devices. Those include Doze Mode battery optimizations and improved app permissions.
So far it sounds like Samsung’s Android 6.0 update will offer a nice mix of new features from both Google and Samsung. Galaxy users will get Android 6.0-specific goodies like Doze Mode battery optimizations while also gaining new features specific to their Samsung device, like the Cross App feature and several Edge Panel improvements for Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ users.
