There’s no word on when Samsung will officially begin pushing Android 6.0 to its flagship smartphones, but it looks like a select group of AT&T Galaxy Note 5 owners are already tasting Samsung’s Marshmallow.
According to a report from Phone Probe, select AT&T customers are beta testing Android 6.0 on their Galaxy Note 5’s after signing up for the beta test last month. The report says that there are currently 200 people testing Marshmallow on their AT&T Note 5s, so the beta is pretty limited right now.
As for what the update is like, well, so far it still looks pretty Samsung-y. There’s a lot of white with blue accents, like in the quick toggles that are located in the Note 5’s notification shade, just like the Galaxy S6 Android 6.0 beta that we saw last December. The user says that performance feels snappier, too.
The software on the phone is Android 6.0.1, build MMB29K.N920AUCU2BPB1, and the update that brought Marshmallow weighed in at a hefty 1355.94MB.
So far, Samsung’s user interface for Android 6.0.1 looks like a refined version of its Android 5.0 and 5.1 UI. The update will include several notable Marshmallow features, though, like Doze battery saving, improved app permissions, and Google Now on Tap, so owners of devices like the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy Note 5 will have those to look forward to with this update.
As I said before, it’s unclear when Samsung and the carriers will begin pushing Marshmallow updates to the public. At least we know that the update appears to be coming along well, though.
