Yesterday Sony announced that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact will finally be coming to the US. Unfortunately, it’s now been revealed that the phones will be missing a key feature when they do come stateside.
Sony has confirmed to us that the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact models that’ll be sold in the US will not include fingerprint readers, despite the fact that the international models do have fingerprint readers. When asked why this is the case, Sony explained that it was “a business decision.”
Not having a fingerprint sensor won’t adversely affect the performance of the US versions of the Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Compact, but it’s still kind of a bummer to see that they’re being pulled from the US models of the Z5. Having a fingerprint reader adds an extra layer of security to your device, and it can make it easier to unlock your handset. So if you’ve been thinking about springing for the Z5 or Z5 Compact when they hit US shelves next month, be sure to keep this in mind while you’re contemplating the purchase.
