Typically if you want to add insurance to your smartphone, you have to do so when you buy it or shortly thereafter. However, if you’re a Verizon customer, you can now add insurance even if you bought your phone months ago.

From January 11 through March 10, Verizon is hosting open enrollment for its insurance offerings. That means that even if you bought your phone a while ago, you can protect it with an insurance plan. Verizon has four different insurance offerings:

• Total Mobile Protection costs $11 per month and includes Wireless Phone Protection for loss, theft, as well as accidental physical or liquid damage; Extended Warranty for any mechanical or electrical malfunctions that occur after the manufacturer’s warranty; and Tech Coach, which is extended customer support for tech issues with your phone and the things that it connects to, like your router.
• Total Equipment Coverage starts at $9 per month and includes Wireless Phone Protection and Extended Warranty
• Wireless Phone Protection starts at $7.15 per month
• Extended Warranty starts at $3 per month
• Tech Coach starts at $7 per month

Some folks may decide to decline insurance when they first buy their phone because they’re thinking about how much they’re going to have to pay for the device itself. Or they may just think that they don’t need it. Usually those people would be out of luck if they change their mind, but Verizon is giving its customers a second chance with this two-month open enrollment. So if you’ve been thinking about how you’d like to add insurance to your expensive Verizon device, now’s your chance.
