Just two months after launching its Neverstop unlimited data plan, Karma has announced that it’s making a significant change to the offering.

Karma is sending emails to its customers to inform them that it’s “running tests to optimize the service, including lowering speeds.” Neverstop previously offered download and upload speeds that were capped at 5Mbps, but Karma CEO Steven Van Welshes that it’s currently testing speeds between 1.5Mbps and 2.5Mbps.

As for why the change is being made, Van Wel says that some users are using hundreds of gigabytes of data, and that 59 percent of respondents to a survey admitted to using Karma’s service as their home internet connection. There are also some folks that’ve found a way to bypass Karma’s system that’s designed to prevent the use of streaming video devices and game consoles with Karma.

Karma’s unlimited service isn’t intended to be used as heavily as some folks have been using it, like as their main internet connection at home. As such, it’s no surprise that Karma is making a change to its unlimited service just a couple of months after launching it, especially since it’s an MVNO that pays to lease Sprint’s cellular network. But hey, at least Karma isn’t eliminating its unlimited service altogether. And the company does say that if you’re unhappy about the speed change, you can cancel your service and apply for a refund.
