Last year we saw HTC partner with Under Armour on a new fitness tracker, the HTC Grip. That device never actually made it to market, but that hasn’t stopped HTC and Under Armour from collaborating on new health-focused hardware.
HTC and Under Armour today introduced the UA HealthBox, a trio of devices that’s meant to help a user to track their activities, provide insights into their fitness, and improve their overall health. The three devices work with UA Record, an app that’s available on Android and iOS that serves as a dashboard for all of the information gathered by HTC and UA’s products.
The first device in the UA HealthBox is the UA Band. The water-resistant Band is meant to be worn 24/7 so that it can measure your sleep, steps, and workouts. It’s got a display that’ll hide when not in use, but can go into always-on mode when you’re working out. The UA Band can also serve phone notifications like texts and calendar alerts, provide music controls, and set alarms.
The second wearable from HTC and Under Armour is the UA Heart Rate. This heart rate monitor can be strapped to your chest and can measure things like your calorie burn and the intensity of your workouts. It can sync that data with the UA Band and UA Record app, letting you see your workout data in real time.
Finally, HTC and Under Armour have created the UA Scale. Besides displaying your weight, the Wi-Fi-enabled UA Scale can show you your body fat percentage and tell you the progress that you’ve made over time. It supports profiles for up to eight users, each of which can store their info, progress, and goals and recognize each user automatically when they step onto the scale. All of the data can be synced with the UA Record app.
The UA HealthBox will launch in the US on January 22, and you can pre-order it today from HTC and Under Armour’s websites as well as Under Armour Brand House stores. The box will hit other US retailers and international locations later in 2016. Pricing for the entire UA HealthBox is $400.
HTC and UA’s HealthBox looks like an interesting option for folks that really want to dive deep into their fitness to help them learn and improve. Rather than having to buy fitness tracking hardware separately and hoping that they work together, folks can get the UA HealthBox and know that all of the pieces will work together. The entire package seems reasonably priced and it works with both Android and iOS, making it an option even if folks don’t have an HTC smartphone.
