Just as expected, Cyanogen OS has integrated Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant, and the update is now rolling out to the OnePlus One.
Cyanogen says that the Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 update is now rolling out to the OnePlus One, bringing with it Cortana. The assistant is deeply integrated into the OS, letting you do simple things like check the weather as well as control system functions like toggling Quiet Mode or Airplane Mode. You can also activate Cortana with the “Hey, Cortana” phrase.
Cyanogen notes that you don’t have to use Cortana on the OnePlus One if you don’t want to. If you’d prefer Google Now, you can activate the “Ok, Google” phrase instead of “Hey, Cortana.” You can even uninstall Cortana completely if you’d like to by going into Settings > Apps > All > Cortana.
While OnePlus One folks have had access to Google Now for a while, it’s nice to have the choice of Cortana, too. Folks might choose Cortana over Google because Cortana integrates with Windows 10, allowing you to have your information and alerts synced between your PC and your phone. Cortana may not be quite as attractive to folks not on Windows 10, but with the Cyanogen OS 12.1.1 update, OnePlus One users can at least give an integrated Cortana a shot.
Cyanogen says that Cortana will roll out to other Cyanogen OS devices in early 2016.
