While the displays on the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are different in that one is flat while the other has curved sides, they’re both the same size, measuring in at 5.1 inches. That may not be the case with their successors, though.
A new report claims that the Samsung Galaxy S7 will come with a 5.2-inch display, while the Galaxy S7 edge’s screen will measure 5.5 inches. The two phones are codenamed “HERO1” and “HERO2,” claims ETNews, and it’s said that they’ll be introduced in February.
Today’s rumor is interesting for a couple of different reasons. The first is that it suggests that Samsung is switching up its strategy from 2015 giving the S7 and S7 edge differently sized screens. The second is that, if this rumor is true, it would make a Galaxy S7 edge+ kind of unnecessary. The Galaxy S6 edge+ features a 5.7-inch display, which would only be 0.2 inches larger than this Galaxy S7 edge. And while Samsung is all about giving its customers choice when it comes to new devices, I’m not sure that offering two similar phones with screens that are 0.2 inches apart makes much sense.
The spec lists for the Galaxy S7 and its variants are still largely unknown. Considering that the GS7 will be a Samsung flagship, though, you can probably expect it to have a high-end feature set that includes a 2560x1440 display, 4GB of RAM, USB Type-C port, and fingerprint reader. Reports have suggested that the S7 will also include a Snapdragon 820 processor, which is Qualcomm’s very latest chipset, and possibly a pressure-sensitive display as well.
