UPDATE: Unsurprisingly, that didn't last long. Looks like the free Cardboard headsets are all gone.
ORIGINAL: Google Cardboard is a cheap way to try out virtual reality, and now you can get yourself a Cardboard headset for no charge at all.
Google is currently giving away four different Star Wars-themed Cardboard headsets in the Google Store. You can choose between designs based on BB-8, R2-D2, a Stormtrooper, and Kylo Ren. Once you’ve made your selection, you can then checkout and you’ll see a nice $0.00 total for the headset. Google will even ship it to you for free in the US.
Once you order a Cardboard unit, you’ll get a message on the page saying “Limit reached,” so each account is only allowed one free Star Wars headset. Even with that limit in place, though, I don’t expect these free Star Wars headsets to last long. Not only does everyone love free stuff, but Star Wars mania is currently in high gear with the release of The Force Awakens just one week away. So if you’ve ever wanted to try VR, you’d best head on over to the Google Store and snag yourself a free Cardboard headset right now.
Once you've scored a free Cardboard headset, be sure to let us know which character you got!
