The Nexus 6P, the first Nexus-branded smartphone from Huawei, has been available for a bit of time now, probably more than enough for those who really wanted to buy it to get their hands on one. Plus a little extra time to play with it, adopt it as the daily driver, and start digging into what owners like, and maybe don’t like so much, in Google’s latest flagship Nexus smartphone.

I’ve had some time with it, and while it’s not my favorite Nexus smartphone up to this point, I can’t argue that it’s a great handset. While the display size, measuring in at 5.7-inches, is still bigger than I’d prefer for my every day phone, it’s a big step in the right direction from the gargantuan Nexus 6’s six-inch screen.

But overall the design is great. The hardware feels fantastic, the screen is certainly worth staring at throughout the day, and the placement of the fingerprint sensor is spot-on. Huawei should definitely be happy with their first Nexus outing, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Google tapped them again in the future for another handset.

I still want a new HTC-made Nexus, mind you. But at least the current handsets are great in their own right.

There’s a lot to like with the new Nexus 6P, and I’ve been pleasantly happy with my time using it. I actually really like Android 6.0, too, so that’s a nice bonus. Though, to be honest, I’ve never really disliked a Nexus device before. Sure, some of them have had major shortcomings, but overall I’ve been enjoying Nexus smartphones right from the start. The Nexus 6P just continues that tradition with really standout features.

But, there are some things that I’d like to change.

I’ll just get it out of the way: If I could have the Nexus 6P’s specs, across the board, in a device that’s the size of the Nexus 5X, including the hardware design/feel, I’d be a happy camper. I don’t hate the 5.7-inch screen on the Nexus 6P, but it’s still just too big for my liking. Sure, the 5.2-inch display on the Nexus 5X isn’t too much smaller, but it’s still a noticeable difference.

This one has me kind of laughing, though: I want LG’s button design, too. And I don’t mean what’s on the Nexus 5X, but rather what LG utilizes with its G4. The Power button, along with the volume rocker, is on the back of the handset, and it’s a button layout that I’ve not been able to get over. I just really enjoy it. It’s comfortable, and placing the fingerprint sensor there, too, would just make it even better.

Overall, I really like the Nexus 6P, and my list of things I’d like to change is quite short.
