Google has been rather quiet about the Pixel C ever since it announced the device in late September, but today Google is breaking that silence and officially launching its latest high-end Android tablet.
The Google Pixel C is now available at a starting price of $499, which will get you a model with 32GB of built-in storage. If you’d like to double the internal storage to 64GB, you can expect to pay $599. Keep in mind that the Pixel C does not offer a microSD slot for adding more storage, so the amount that you buy is the amount that you’ll be stuck with.
Google is also offering a keyboard dock for the Pixel C. The $149 keyboard pairs with the Pixel C over Bluetooth and connects to the tablet magnetically. Once the two are attached, you can use the keyboard dock’s hinge to angle the Pixel C screen anywhere between 100 and 130 degrees. When you don’t want to use the keyboard, you can simply attach it to the back of the Pixel C. One other cool trick that the keyboard dock offers is that, when you place the Pixel C face down on the keyboard, the tablet will charge the keyboard inductively.
In terms of raw specs, the Pixel C is a premium Android 6.0 tablet that has a 10.2-inch 2560x1800 display and a quad-core NVIDIA X1 processor. Also included is 3GB of RAM, stereo speakers, and a USB Type-C port.
The Pixel C is a bit more expensive that Google's last Android tablet, the Nexus 9. Pixel-branded products are all about offering extremely high-end reference hardware, though, just like the two Chromebook Pixel laptops that Google has released in the past. And while the Pixel C doesn’t have quite as astronomical a price as the Chromebook Pixel laptops, it’s not cheap, especially if you add on the keyboard to use the Pixel C as a laptop replacement. The good news for folks that do plan to splurge on a Pixel C is that Google has committed to pushing software updates to the device every six weeks.
