Apple used to catch a lot of flak for only selling 3.5-inch and 4-inch phones, which many considered to be too small compared to 5-inch and 5.5-inch Android and Windows Phone devices. Now that Apple sells 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones, though, some folks are longing for a new 4-inch iPhone to come to market. A new report claims that Apple may fulfill those wishes.
Ming-Chi Kuo, analyst for KGI Securities, claims that Apple will launch a new 4-inch iPhone model in early 2016. Kuo claims that the device will be powered by an A9 processor, which is found in the iPhone 6s, and that it’ll include NFC for Apple Pay support. Other alleged specs for this new 4-inch iPhone include 8-megapixel rear and 1.2-megapixel front cameras, 2.5D glass with curved edges, and a metal body with at least two or three color options.
Kuo has a decent track record with Apple rumors. While he hasn’t nailed every one of his predictions, he has gotten some things right, like the gold iPhone 5s. That’s why this new 4-inch iPhone is gaining attention this week. As for whether or not the rumor will become reality, we’ll just have to wait and see. It’d be kind of strange to see Apple release a new 4-inch iPhone after going with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens this year and last, but Apple does now offer three different iPad screen sizes. Of course, there’s also the question of whether or not consumers would buy a new 4-inch iPhone. Certainly some folks would based on the size alone, but others may skip it because of its cameras, which are rumored to be lower-end than the iPhone 6s’s.
