After teasing its first Android Wear smartwatch back in August, the Fossil Q Founder is now officially available.
You can buy the Q Founder from Fossil’s online shop for $295. In exchange for your three Benjamins, you’ll get an Android Wear smartwatch with a 46mm round stainless steel case and matching 22mm band. As you can see in the image below, the Q Founder does have a Moto 360-style “flat tire” at the bottom of its display.
The Q Founder’s spec list includes 4GB of storage, a 400mAh battery, and an Intel processor. The watch itself is IP67 rated for water resistance, and because it’s running Android Wear, it’s compatible with devices running Android 4.4 and up or iOS 8 and higher. Each Q Founder also comes with a charging pad to keep your smartwatch battery topped up.
We’re starting to see more and more traditional analog watch makers dip their toes into the smartwatch market, and it’s interesting to see what kind of hardware they can come up with. Fossil is a big name in the watch world and it’s got a lot of physical stores, so the fact that Fossil now has an Android Wear smartwatch is a big deal for the platform. Now we just have to strap one to our wrist to see if Fossil can compete with tech companies when it comes to smartwatches.
