Remember that Pepsi Phone that we heard about last month? Well it’s been officially revealed, and interestingly enough, it’s launching with a Kickstarter-style crowdfunding campaign.
The Pepsi Phone P1s has launched on JD Finance, and so far it’s raised ¥582,748 ($91,315 USD) in the one day that it’s been on the crowdfunding service. The final goal of the P1s is to raise ¥3,000,000 by December 3, so it’s got two weeks left in its campaign. Anyone interested in the Pepsi Phone P1s can get one for ¥699 ($109 USD), but that’s a price limited to 1000 supports. The P1s’s regular price will be ¥1299 ($203 USD).
As far as specs go, the Pepsi Phone P1s boasts a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front cameras, a 1.7GHz MediaTek MT6592 processor, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and dual SIM slots. It’s powered by a 3000mAh battery and runs a customized version of Android 5.1. And like several other recent Android phones, this Pepsi handset has a fingerprint reader that’s mounted on its backside.
It seems strange to see a smartphone branded with the logo of a huge soda company, and it’s even stranger to see that device on a crowdfunding website. Looking past all of that, though, the Pepsi Phone P1s seems like a decent Android phone for the price, so long as you don’t mind staring a Pepsi logos on your phone’s hardware and software all of the time.
