The weekend is nearly here, and Google has decided to celebrate by acquiring a company and making their apps free.
Fly Labs announced today that they’ve been acquired by Google and that they’ll be joining the Google Photos team. “Google Photos is a home for your life’s memories, powered by Google’s machine learning and computer vision technology,” said Fly Labs in its announcement of the deal. “It’s a perfect match for what we built at Fly Labs, and we’re looking forward to folding our technology into Google Photos.”
Fly Labs makes four video editing apps for iOS that let you edit videos, trim and rearrange clips, add transitions, and more, all on your phone. Now that Fly Labs is a part of Google, all of its apps and their in-app purchases are now free. The apps will stick around for another 3 months, but Fly Labs cautions that it won’t be issuing any updates. The good news is that they were all updated as recently as late October, so they should plat nicely with Apple’s current lineup of products.
Right now, Google Photos doesn’t include any editing tools, though Google itself does edit together photos and videos for memories. Does that mean Google Photos will gain editing tools? Will they be built into Snapped? We’;; just have to wait and see. One thing we do know is that all of Fly Labs’ iOS apps are now free, so it seems a good time to check ‘em out if you haven’t already. After all, Google acquired Fly Labs for a reason, so their apps could be worth a look.
