Earlier this month, Motorola revealed the devices that it plans to update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It’s no surprise that the new Moto X Pure Edition was on that list, but I’d bet that most owners are wondering when their brand new phone will get Marshmallow. Today a Motorola employee provided an update on the update.
David Schuster says that Motorola is currently running “a small TestDrive” for the Moto X Pure Edition’s Android 6.0 update. These small tests will run for the next couple of weeks, and based on the feedback that Motorola gets during the test, it’ll then determine when it rolls out a larger soak test.
Schuster’s full statement:
“There have been a couple reports of a Marshmallow "soak test" that has started for Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. Just want to make it clear that we have NOT started a formal "soak test". We have started a small TestDrive for the Marshmallow upgrade on Moto X 2015 Pure Edition. We will be conducting these tests for the next couple of weeks. Pending the feedback during this test cycle will determine the timing of a full soak test.
thanks ”
If the “small TestDrive” will happen for a few weeks and then a soak test kicks off right after that, the Moto X Pure Edition’s general Marshmallow update could be another month or so away. That said, the Moto X Pure Edition could still get its Android 6.0 update before most other phones, so long as there aren’t any major bugs discovered during its testing. In recent years, Motorola has been one of the best manufacturers when it comes to speedy Android updates, so here’s to hoping that that continues with Android 6.0 and the Lenovo-owned Motorola.
