The Google Play app for Android has undergone a few big redesigns over the years, and it looks like another one is coming soon.
Google Krill Grouchnikov today posted several images that show a refreshed Google Play app for Android. The new app appears to have a splash screen that’ll lead you into a new home page that’s divided into two sections: Apps & Games and Entertainment. You can tab the tabs to switch between the two sections, and then below those will be several ovals to jump between sub-sections like Top Charts and Games for apps and Movies & TV and Music for entertainment. Up at the top will be a large banner highlighting a particular title or genre that you can swipe through.
Grouchnikov also teases that this new-look Google Play will offer right-to-left support for languages that are written that way.
This looks like the biggest update to the Google Play app that we’ve seen in quite a while. It’s bringing Google Play in line with Google’s other Android apps, adding a splash screen and using Google’s new logo throughout. And while the individual app pages look largely similar to the Google Play app that we’ve got now, the home page is being refreshed with a big banner that Google can use to highlight apps and content as well as new tabs to divide the two major parts of the Google Play store.
Unfortunately, there’s no word on when this update might begin rolling out. Grouchnikov only says that it’s coming “soon.” What do you think of this new-look Google Play app?
