After launching the ZenFone 2 in two variants — one for $199 and one for $299 — earlier this year, ASUS has now released a third version of its new Android device.
This new ZenFone 2 is priced at $229 and offers 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. That places it in the middle of the $199 model that has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage and the $299 version that’s got 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. This $229 ZenFone 2 also has a quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 processor, which is the chipset found in the lower-end $199 version.
Outside of those few tweaks, the $229 ZenFone 2 is similar to the other versions. It’s got a 5.5-inch 1920x1080 display, 13-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel cameras, 3000mAh battery, 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 5.0.
This $229 version of the ZenFone 2 is an interesting option because it offers the 4GB of RAM found in the pricier model. While the 16GB of internal storage isn’t much, the ZenFone 2 does come with a microSD slot that you can use to supplement the internal storage. So long as you don’t mind getting the Z3560 processor instead of the Z3580, this ZenFone 2 could be worth a buy.
