Google today released a new Wallet app for Android, complete with a material design look and fresh new icon. With the new Google Wallet app, you can spend any money that you might have on your Google Wallet Card, cash out money from your Wallet Balance onto your debit card or linked bank account, and transfer money to your Wallet Balance.
This new Google Wallet app is separate from the old Google Wallet account. In the description of the old app, Google says that the original Google Wallet app will be updated to become an Android Pay app “in the next few days.”
While the old Google Wallet app will soon become Android Pay with a focus on paying for things at in-store terminals, the new Google Wallet app is for personal transactions, like taking money out of an ATM or sending cash to friends. You can still pay for items at stores with a Debit MasterCard, but it looks like Android Pay will be the main way to go if you want to pay for goods in stores.
