Today’s the day that many major mobile companies are holding their IFA 2015 press conferences to show off their new wares. First up is Acer, which has a couple of crazy-looking devices as part of its Predator gaming series.
The Predator 8 tablet is an Android 5.1 tablet with lots of sharp angles, a huge logo on its rear, and a gray and red color scheme that screams “GAMER!” at the top of its lungs. To help you better experience your games, Acer has included a set of four front-facing speakers and a pair of haptic motors that can vibrate to give you feedback based on what’s happening in your game. Meanwhile, the back of the tablet has a pair of grip pads to help give your sweaty palms something to hold on to during intense mobile gaming sessions.
The Predator 8’s got an 8-inch 1920x1080 display that has touch sensors that Acer says are denser and more tightly packed than many other devices, which results in better accuracy for gaming, sketching, or writing.
Rounding out the Predator 8’s spec list includes an Intel Atom X7 processor, up to 64GB of storage, a microSD slot, 2x2 MiMO Wi-Fi, and a body that’s 8.4mm thick. The Predator 8 will launch at Newegg on November 6 for $299.99, which seems like a reasonable price for a gaming-focused tablet.
Acer today also teased a second portable Predator, the Predator 6 smartphone. The Predator 6 includes a deca-core processor — yes, 10 cores — as well as 4GB of RAM, a 6-inch HD display, dual haptic motors, and a 21-megapixel camera. Alas, there’s no word yet on when this crazily-specced Android 5.1 smartphone will launch or how much it’ll cost when it does.
