The goodies that Amazon gives to Prime subscribers is pretty lengthy, including two-day shipping and free video streaming with Instant Video. Now Amazon is making the latter feature even better.
Starting today, Amazon Prime members can save Instant Video content to their Android and iOS devices for offline viewing. The feature is available in the US, UK, Germany, and Austria, and it includes both movies and TV shows.
To save offline videos, you’ll need the Amazon Video app. iOS users can simply grab the app from Apple’s App Store. Most Android users will have to do a bit more work to get the app because it’s only available through the Amazon Appstore. That means that if you’ve got a non-Amazon phone or tablet, you’ll have to sideload the Amazon Appstore onto your device, then download Amazon Video from there. Most music streaming services let you save tunes offline for listening while you’re on an airplane or doing something else where you might lack connectivity, but offline playback isn’t something you see much with offline video. Netflix certainly doesn’t have it, giving Amazon Instant Video an advantage for folks that do a lot of traveling.
