Google today announced a major new feature for Android Wear that ought to make watch faces much more interesting.
Android Wear now supports interactive watch faces, allowing them to show you more information, change their design, or launch an app with a tap. Google showed off three interactive watch faces that demonstrate how the new feature works:
Also included in this Android Wear update is Google Translate, which will let you speak to your watch and have your words translated into 44 different languages. You can then flip your wrist to display the words to someone else, who can respond in their language. Then flip the watch back to your face and their words will be translated for you.
Finally, this update includes Wi-Fi support for the LG G Watch R. Wi-Fi support will allow you to get notifications from your connected device on your LG G Watch R, even when you’re out and away from your phone. This feature has already rolled out to other Android Wear devices, and now it’s hitting the LG G Watch R, too.
Google says that this new Android Wear update will roll out to all Android Wear watches in the coming weeks.
