UPDATE: T-Mobile's John Legere has finally responded to Marcelo Claure, first asking the Sprint CEO "you mad bro?" before suggesting that he may have "hit a nerve at the end of a rough week" and that Claure is mimicking Legere to get attention.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere is a pretty outspoken guy, often speaking candidly about his competitors and unafraid to use profanities in public. That includes his Twitter use. Legere recently took to Twitter to share his opinion on Sprint’s new All-In plan, and Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure fired back with his own candid, profane response.
Following Legere’s description of Sprint’s All-In plan as “a swing and a miss,” Claure told the T-Mobile CEO that he’s “so tired of your Uncarrier bullshit.” Sprint’s CEO went on to say that T-Mobile is “worse than the other two carriers together,” calling T-Mobile’s new JUMP! On Demand program a “cheap misleading lease imitation.”
Claure elaborated on his feelings by saying that T-Mobile “tricks” people into believing that they’re getting a $15 iPhone lease when that’s not true. Claure is referring to T-Mo’s offer that’ll let you lease a 16GB iPhone 6 for $15 per month, which is a limited time offer and requires you to trade in a phone. The regular monthly lease rate for a 16GB iPhone 6 on JUMP! On Demand is $27.08.
Sprint’s CEO also says that T-Mobile tells customers that they can upgrade to a new phone three times per year with JUMP! On Demand, but that they don’t tell those customers that the monthly lease price goes up to $27 when they do. Claure wrapped up his rant by calling T-Mobile “a fake show” and then used the hashtag #Tmobilelikehell, a play on John Legere’s #Sprintlikehell hashtag that he uses when criticizing Sprint.
Most carrier offers aren’t without an asterisk or two. For example, T-Mobile’s JUMP! On Demand doesn’t include insurance like the original JUMP! does, and the program is only available with certain phones, though the type of consumer that’s upgrading phones several times a year is likely also the kind that’d want the flagship hardware that JUMP! On Demand offers. Meanwhile, Sprint All-In originally limited streaming video to 600kbps, though a backlash led Sprint to quickly drop that limit. All-In also doesn’t include taxes and fees, which means that it’s not totally all in.
John Legere hasn’t yet responded to Marcelo Claure’s rant, but given how outspoken he is, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the T-Mobile CEO fire back at some point.
@JohnLegere I am so tired of your Uncarrier bullshit when you are worse than the other two carriers together. Your cheap misleading lease
