One of the most popular features of the old Foursquare app was Mayorships, which would be awarded to the person that checked into a location the most times within a 30-day window. The Mayorships feature was tweaked when Foursquare spun the check-in portion of its app into Swarm, changing from everyone competing for one Mayorship to having a Mayorship for friend groups. Now the original Mayorship feature has returned.
Swarm is now offering Mayorships on the Android and iOS versions of its app. To get the Mayorship of a location, you need to have the most check-ins within the last 30 days, and now you’ll be battling against everyone else checking in to a spot. Once you get the Mayorship, you’ll get a shiny crown on your avatar every time that you check in to a place.
It’s also worth noting that your recent check-ins will count toward your Mayorships, even though the feature is launching today. After updating to the newest version of the Swarm app, I found that I already had nine Mayorships.
As I said before, Mayorships were one of the most popular features of the old-school Foursquare app, so a lot of Swarm users are probably going to be pretty pleased with the return of the original style of Mayorship. The update is now available on both Android and iOS, so head to your platform’s app store and get to downloading!
