If you’ve got a Motorola Atrix HD that’s still waiting for its Android 4.4 KitKat update, well, I’ve got some bad news.
Motorola’s David Schuster today announced that the AT&T Atrix HD won’t be updated to KitKat, despite the fact that Motorola previously said that it would be. Motorola wants to make it up to you Atrix HD owners, though, and it’s doing so by offering a discount on a new Moto X (2nd Gen.) Pure Edition. If you’ve got an Atrix HD, you can head to this page and register your name, IMEI, phone number, and device serial number, and you’ll get the opportunity to buy a Moto X Pure Edition for $399.99, which is $100 off its normal asking price, as well as a Motorola Whisper Bluetooth headset for $49.99.
It’s never good to hear that a device won’t be getting a major OS update, and I’m sure that Atrix HD owners are especially frustrated since their update was promised a year and a half ago. A $100 discount on the Moto X (2nd Gen.) Pure Edition is nice, but some folks may not want to pony up $400 for a new device. Since the Atrix HD came out in July 2012, though, it’s likely that a lot of folks that bought one are already eligible for a subsidized upgrade for installment plan through a carrier.
