Luxury watch maker TAG Heuer has steadily been dropping details of its upcoming Android Wear device in recent months, and now it’s revealed one more tidbit of the upcoming smartwatch.
TAG Heuer’s first Android Wear smartwatch will be called the “TAG Heuer Carrera Wearable 01.” That name makes the watch part of TAG Heuer’s Carrera line of analog watches, which includes the TAG Heuer Carrera - Heuer 01 that was introduced earlier this year. TAG Heuer also recently said that a key focus of the Carrera Wearable 01 will be its lifespan, and the company hopes “to be able to change the technology but keep the watch elements.”
It was previously revealed that the Carrera Wearable 01 will launch in October or November of this year for approximately $1400. That is considerably more expensive that any of the other Android Wear watches that’ve launched to date, but TAG Heuer is a luxury watch brand, and so the company wants to extend that luxury image to its smartwatches. And while that might put the Carrera Wearable 01 out of consideration for some of us, it’ll actually make the device one of the only smartwatches that some consumers are interested in.
