Apple today launched a refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that includes a Force Touch trackpad, as well as a more affordable iMac with Retina 5k display. Those two devices grabbed most of the headlines today, but Apple also quietly released a new product for us mobile folk.
Apple is now selling a new iPhone Lightning Dock in its online store. As its name suggests, it’s a dock for your Lightning-equipped iPhone. That means that it’s compatible with the iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and the iPod touch 5th Generation models. And because the dock is just a flat surfaced with a Lightning connector sticking out, it should work with future Lightning-compatible iPhone models as well.
In addition to the Lightning connector, this iPhone Lightning Dock includes a USB out that can be used to connect the dock to a computer or a wall outlet using the Apple USB Power Adapter. There’s also an audio out that supports connections to powered speakers and headphones.
This new iPhone Lightning Dock is priced at $39, which certainly isn’t cheap. If you want a thing to dock your iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, or other Lightning-equipped iPhone onto your desk or nightstand, Apple's now got an official option for you to consider.
