A little more than one week ago, it was revealed that T-Mobile had halted ZTE ZMAX sales because for whatever reason, some customers were trying to remove the ZMAX’s non-removable battery. Now T-Mobile has formulated a plan to stop that: tell people to leave the battery alone.

According to an internal T-Mobile memo, ZTE’s investigation into the whole customers-opening-the-ZMAX situation found that “a very small number” of people were actually opening the phone. As a result, T-Mo is now resuming sales of the ZMAX, but it’s also telling all salespeople to explain to ZMAX buyers that the phone’s back and battery aren’t removable and that it should only be opening by an authorized tech.

Obviously it’s unsafe to open a phone that’s not meant to be opened because you could damage the body or the battery, the last of which could end up harming you too. It’s kind of strange to hear that some folks were trying to open up the ZTE ZMAX, but at least the number of people doing so were small, and so now the rest of us are free to pick up ZTE’s affordable Android phablet once again.
