UPDATE: In its forums, SwiftKey notes some of the known issues of Clarity, including some occasional crashes when used with Google product text fields and a bug that renders the keyboard unusable on Samsung devices.

SwiftKey is known for its third-party keyboards, which are regarded as some of the best available on Android and iOS. Today the company announced a new initiative that’s also about keyboards, but it’s about different keyboards.

SwiftKey Greenhouse is a new program in which the firm can build unique keyboards and let users try them out. This initiative will let SwiftKey try out experimental approaches to how people type without building them into the main SwiftKey app. The first product to come out of the SwiftKey Greenhouse is called Clarity.

The Clarity Keyboard Beta features a simple, clean look to help you focus on what you're typing. There's also multi-word autocorrect, which will look over the last few words that you’ve typed and try to go back and correct them if needed based on the context of the sentence. If Clarity makes a correction that you think is incorrect, you can just tap backspace to undo the changes. As you continue to use it, Clarity will learn your slang, nicknames, and phrases to adapt to how you type.

Clarity is now available from Google Play, and it’s compatible with Android 4.4 and up. The keyboard looks like an interesting idea that takes regular autocorrect a step further by not just checking that you’ve spelled something correctly, but also if the word that you did enter is actually the correct word for that sentence.
