The Apple Watch officially went up for pre-order at 12:01 am PT/3:01 am ET on April 10, and unless you were able to get your reservation in quick, you likely got an expected ship date in May or June. However, the folks that did get those estimated ship dates may not actually have to wait that long to get their watches.
Some Apple Watch buyers with May and June ship dates discovered today that their order status had changed from “Processing” to “Preparing for Shipment,” and Apple has confirmed that it is shipping some orders ahead of those May and June estimates. The Cupertino firm explained to BuzzFeed:
“We’re happy to be updating many customers today with the news that their Apple Watch will arrive sooner than expected. Our team is working to fill orders as quickly as possible based on the available supply and the order in which they were received. We know many customers are still facing long lead times and we appreciate their patience.”
It’s unclear exactly when these units will actually begin shipping to consumers, but I’m sure that folks that were previously given a shipping estimate of June will take any earlier delivery that they can get. It’s worth noting that Apple’s online store is still showing a shipping estimate of June for new Apple Watch pre-orders, and a recently-leaked Apple memo suggested that the wearable won’t be available in stores until June at the earliest, so right now it’s unclear when you’ll be able to quickly get an Apple Watch on your wrist.
