Earlier this week, Google announced a major Android Wear update that’ll bring Wi-Fi support, always-on apps, and more. Now Google is pushing a big update to the Android Wear companion app, too.
The new Android Wear update brings a more Material Design look, making it feel more at home on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The makeover includes cards for suggested watch apps and tips for using your Android Wear smartwatch. And if you tap the big image of your connected watch at the top of the app, you can get access to settings like tilt-to-wake, always-on screen, and the ability to choose which calendar events appear on your watch.
There’s also a “Cloud sync” option in the Settings menu that is tied to the Wi-Fi support feature of Android Wear’s new update. This feature will let your Android Wear smartwatch get notifications and send messages from your smartphone, even if they’re not connected over Bluetooth. You’ll just need to have your smartwatch connected to Wi-Fi and your smartphone on a data connection (cellular or Wi-Fi).
This Android Wear app update makes Google’s smartwatch companion look much better than the old version, helping it to fit in with Android 5.0. And thanks to the included “Cloud sync” setting, you’ll be ready to have enjoy the Android Wear update’s Wi-Fi support once your smartwatch gets it. Now we just have to wait for that Android Wear update to hit our watches.
