Most of the devices that’ve been updated to Android 5.1 so far are of the Nexus and Google Play edition varieties, but today NVIDIA said that it’s going to push 5.1 to its SHIELD hardware soon.
NVIDIA recently teased that its prepping an Android 5.1 update for the SHIELD Tablet that’ll include performance and responsiveness as well as improved security. NVIDIA says that it’ll share more info about this update in the “coming weeks.”
Don’t worry, SHIELD Portable owners, because you haven’t been forgotten. NVIDIA says that it’s going to upgrade the SHIELD Portable from Android 4.4 to Android 5.1, skipping 5.0 altogether. There’s no firm release date for the 5.1 update quite yet, but NVIDIA says that “it won’t be much longer” before the wait for a SHIELD Portable update is over.
NVIDIA has been pretty on-the-ball when it comes to supporting its SHIELD hardware with Android OS updates, and the news of these 5.1 updates show that. While SHIELD Portable owners have been waiting a while for their taste of Lollipop, their patience is going to be rewarded with a move straight to Android 5.1.
