Many Android users have a Google search bar planted on their home screen, showing a gray Google logo, a voice search button, and a big area to type in a query. The search bar is simple, but Google appears to be testing a tweak that’ll make it the bar much more noticeable.
Some Android users are now seeing the Google logo in their search bar appear in the blue, red, yellow, and green colors of the regular Google logo. That’s a pretty big change from the standard gray logo that Android users are accustomed to (you can check out the colorful logo in the two left screens and the current gray logo in the rightmost screenshot). It looks like Google is just testing the change with some users, and since many of them are running different versions of Google Play services, it seems to be a server tweak being done on Google’s end.
This change sounds small, but it makes the Google search bar stand out quite a bit more than the standard gray logo. Opinions on whether that’s a good thing or not will vary, but I’m kind of digging the more colorful search bar. It’s unclear if it’ll end up rolling out to everyone or if Google will just test it a bit and then pull it back, but if you’ve got an Android device, you may want to check out the Google search bar in the coming days to see if you’re one of the lucky ones that get the chance to try it out.
What do you think of this updated Google search bar?
