Today Jawbone introduced two new fitness trackers in its UP family of wearables, and each one has a special feature that makes ‘em stand out.
First up is the Jawbone UP4, which features a design similar to the UP3 but has an embedded NFC chip that can be used to make contactless payments with a linked American Express credit card. To do so, you connect your eligible American Express card using Jawbone’s UP app for iOS or Android, then just tap your UP4 to an American Express contactless payment terminal.
Since the UP4 is a fitness tracker, you can also use it to monitor your activities when you’re not paying for things with it. The UP4’s got the usual array of sleep and activity tracking and heart health monitoring features as the UP3, and you can also use the UP app in tandem with the UP4 to access the Smart Coach feature, which can help you be more active and eat healthier.
The UP4 will launch this summer and will cost $199.99, which is $20 more than the Jawbone UP3 that’s currently available.
Jawbone also revealed the UP2 today. The UP2 also looks similar to the UP3, but with a smaller form factor and a smaller price: it retails for $99.99, and it’s available online from Jawbone, Best Buy, and Amazon. The UP2 features many of the features that you’d expect in a fitness tracker like activity and sleep tracking as well as food logging. It’s also got a motor that can vibrate to wake you from sleep or remind you to do something, like workout.
The UP2 looks like a pretty nice little fitness tracker for folks that want a dedicated device for that purpose. It’s nice-looking, has all the features that you’d expect from a fitness tracker, and has a price tag that’s pretty affordable, especially compared to some other fitness trackers and most smartwatches.
