One year after the original announcement of Android Wear, a couple of big new milestones for the platform have been announced.
TAG Heuer, Intel, and Google are going to team up on an Android Wear smartwatch that’ll be released at the end of 2015. That’s about all that’s known about the upcoming smartwatch, but TAG Heuer’s analog watches typically cost thousands of dollars, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the company’s Android Wear smartwatch carried a similar price tag.
Most Android Wear smartwatches cost a few hundred dollars at most, and many are powered by Qualcomm processors, so this Intel-powered TAG Heuer smartwatch is going to be notable for several reasons. The device will finally give Android Wear a luxury offering — one that can go head-to-head in terms of price with the Apple Watch — and it’ll be interesting to see what kind of hardware TAG Heuer crafts for its Android Wear device, especially given the design and cost of the company’s typical four-figure analog offerings.
