If you’re a DROID Turbo owner, you’re probably wondering where your Android 5.0 update is at, especially since several other Motorola phones have already gotten Lollipop. Well, I’ve got some news for your Turbo folk today that might make the wait for Lollipop a bit easier.
Motorola employee Luciano Carvalho has revealed that the DROID Turbo will be updated straight to Android 5.1. He explains that Verizon demands Voice over LTE (VoLTE) support for the Turbo, and as we recently learned, Android 5.1 includes native support for that feature. And so it sounds like Motorola has decided that it’d be smarter to just go straight to Android 5.1 and its built-in VoLTE support rather than port all of their own VoLTE features to Android 5.0, then toss it all out when they move to Android 5.1.
While it’s understandable that DROID Turbo owners are starting to get a little frustrated that they don’t yet have Android 5.0, Motorola’s reasoning for not wanting to waste resources on porting VoLTE to 5.0 then throwing it all out when moving to 5.1 makes sense. We still don’t know when the DROID Turbo’s Lollipop update will arrive, but at least when it does, you owners will be on the latest version of Android.
