Samsung’s got a new family of Android tablets, the Galaxy Tab A.
The Galaxy Tab A family currently includes two screen sizes — 8-inch and 9.7-inch — both of which have a resolution of 1024x768 and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The two devices also have 1.2GHz quad-core processors, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot, 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, and bodies that are 7.5mm thick. They’re also both based on Android 5.0 and have Samsung’s newest version of TouchWiz, which is said to be less bloated than previous versions.
The two Galaxy Tab A models will launch in Russia in April. The 8-inch model will start at 16,990 rubles ($275 USD), and an LTE model will be available starting at 20,990 rubles ($340 USD). Meanwhile, the 9.7-inch version will start at 20,990 rubles ($340 USD), and an LTE-enabled version will start at 24,990 rubles ($404 USD).
Samsung’s Android tablets typically feature displays that have a 16:10 aspect ratio, so it’s notable to see Samsung introduce new tablets with 4:3 screens that work well for browsing the web. While their screen resolutions may be a tad low for some folks, the combination of Android 5.0 and a 4:3 aspect ratio make these new Galaxy Tab A tablets interesting new additions to Samsung’s product lineup. Here’s to hoping that they make it to regions outside of Russia.
