So you know how Google Now recently gained support for 40 third-party apps? Well it turns out that that’s just the tip of the card-shaped iceberg, because that support will soon be expanded.
Aparna Chennapragada, Google Now’s Director of Product Management, says that Google Now will eventually work with all third-party apps. Chennapragada revealed the news during a South by Southwest (SXSW) interview, saying that Google plans to offer an open API for Google Now. She went on to explain that when it comes to multiple apps that serve the same purpose, Google Now will use your app usage patterns to determine which info to show you.
Chennapragada later teased other features that are coming to Google Now. Those include things like support for theme park line times and Easter eggs such as Google’s “flip a coin” feature.
Google Now has always been a popular feature, offering up quick looks at weather, popular news articles, giving you directions to home and work, and more. Support for third-party apps makes it an even more powerful app, and because that third-party support is currently only limited to 40 apps, it’s no surprise to hear that Google wants to open Google Now to all apps and make it even better.
