Samsung has launched ruggedized “Active” versions of its past couple of Galaxy S flagships, and it looks like that trend will continue with the Galaxy S6.
A Galaxy S6 Active is reportedly in the works with the model number SM-G890A. That “A” at the end of the model number suggests that the device will head to AT&T, which isn’t a surprise since the S4 Active and the S5 Active also hit AT&T.
In terms of specs, we’re told to expect a feature set similar to the regular Galaxy S6. That includes a 5.1-inch 2560x1440 Super AMOLED display, Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front cam. The Galaxy S6 Active will allegedly be a bit larger than the S6 (73.6 x 146.9 x 8.8mm versus 70.5 x 143.4 x 6.8mm) and it’ll also apparently have a beefier 3500mAh battery. The regular Galaxy S6 has a 2550mAh battery.
So yeah, there’s not really anything too shocking about this leak since we’ve seen Active versions of the past couple of Galaxy S flagships. What will be interesting is seeing how Samsung ruggedizes the Galaxy S6, which has a metal ring sandwiched between two glass panels.
Would you be more interested in this Galaxy S6 Active than the Galaxy S6 since it’s got a bigger battery?
