After getting an early peek at the BlackBerry Rio in the form of leaked renders back in December, some new photos of the Rio in the wild appear to have surfaced.
These new photos claim to show a BlackBerry Rio in black. The device, which may come to market as the “BlackBerry Leap,” has a design similar to the BlackBerry Z3 that launched in 2014. Both models have a black slap design and dimpled backside. However, the two differ a bit when it comes to specs.
The BlackBerry Rio/Leap is said to have a 5-inch 1280x720 display, dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Plus processor, 8-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras, 16GB of storage, a microSD slot, 2GB of RAM, and 4G LTE connectivity. One image shows that the Rio/Leap is running BlackBerry OS 10.3.1.
This new BlackBerry is expected to launch in April or May, but it’s not yet known how much it’ll cost when it does. The BlackBerry Z3 launched at a price of IDR 2,199,000, which is about $171, and so the BlackBerry Rio and its slightly-beefier spec sheet may cost slightly more than the Z3. With its mid-range specs, the BlackBerry Rio/Leap could be a good affordable handset for folks that want to try BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 on the cheap.
