UPDATE: Google says that you'll be able to download your Helpouts history using Google Takeout starting April 20. That data will be available through November 1.
In 2013, Google launched its Helpouts service in an effort to let users share their knowledge with others through live video and messages. The service never really seemed to gain much traction, though, and now Google says that Helpouts is going away for good.
Google has announced that Helpouts will shut down on April 20, 2015. Both the Android and iOS apps have been pulled from their respective stores, but you can still use the Helpouts site to browse experts and their topics.
Google Helpouts sounds like a great service on paper, letting users easily connect with experts in various fields in real-time. Helpouts never really seemed to get a ton of support from Google, though, and so it’s possible that some folks don’t know that it exists. That doesn’t matter any longer, though, because its apps are gone and the service itself will shutter in just a couple of months.
Did you ever use Google Helpouts?
